What to include
The space
Room, approximate dimensions, and anything fixed the rug has to work around. A photograph of the floor from the doorway tells us more than a paragraph.
The light
Which way the windows face, and whether you use the room mostly by day or by lamplight. Colour behaves differently in each and it is the most common source of surprise.
The use
Bare feet or shoes, children, animals, a dining chair being dragged. This decides construction and pile height more than taste does.
Anything you have shortlisted
Pieces from the store, or a picture of something you have seen elsewhere. Either is a useful starting point.
