Who Pays Import Duty When You Order From India
Delivery · 17 October 2026 · 5 min · Published by Raheem & Son for RS Living
How import duties and taxes work on an international RS Living order: you pay them to the carrier on delivery, and we do not collect or refund them.

The short answer
When you order from RS Living for delivery outside India, import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery. We do not collect them at checkout. Shipping is free, and the price you pay us is the price of the items.
Domestic Indian orders have no import duty.
How it works
When the parcel reaches your country, customs may assess duty and taxes, and the carrier usually collects them from you, sometimes with a handling fee of their own, before handing the parcel over. In shipping terms this is close to delivered at place, or DAP.
These charges are between you and the carrier or customs. RS Living does not set, collect or refund them. Orders delivered outside India carry no GST.
Why there are no rates on this page
Duty and import taxes depend on the destination country, the type of goods and their value, and they change. Your local customs authority or the carrier can tell you what applies. If you are a business importing in volume, the Raheem & Son journal covers the trade side, for example importing rugs from India to the UK and to the USA.
Cancellations and faults
If you cancel or withdraw from an order, including a UK or EU cancellation within 14 days on cushion covers, poufs, baskets or wall hangings, we refund what we charged you. Anything the carrier collected for customs is between you and the carrier or customs.
If a rug is reported faulty within 3 days of delivery, we collect it, repair it and send it back, paying the courier both ways. Your statutory rights are unaffected. See faults and your rights.
Currency
The order is charged in Indian rupees. If you choose to view prices in another currency, those figures are approximate; your bank may apply its own exchange rate and fees.
If your order changes after you pay
Write to living@raheemandson.com as early as you can with your order number. Because every piece is made to order, what we can change depends on whether production has started. If an order is cancelled, we refund what we charged. Any duty or taxes are paid to the carrier or customs on delivery, not to us.
Keep your order confirmation email and invoice. They show what you paid us, which is useful if customs asks for proof of value.
How we handle it
Import charges on international parcels are paid on delivery, by you, to the carrier or customs. We do not collect them.

Reading your checkout
At checkout for an international order you will see the price of each item, free shipping, and a note that import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery. The total is the amount charged by us, in Indian rupees. If you have chosen to view prices in another currency, a note above the payment button tells you the rupee amount and that the converted figure is approximate.
If checkout says we cannot deliver to your country, write to living@raheemandson.com.
Questions to ask any seller shipping from abroad
Who pays the import duty and taxes, and when? (With us: you, to the carrier, on delivery.)
Will the courier ask me for any payment on delivery?
What is refunded if I cancel?
What currency am I charged in, and could my bank add fees?
Clear answers to these before you buy prevent almost every unpleasant surprise with international delivery.
Common misunderstandings
"Free shipping means no other charges." Not for international orders: shipping is free, but import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery.
"RS Living refunds my duty." We never collect it, so we do not refund it. Where a cancellation right applies, we refund what we charged.
"The converted price is what I pay." The charge is in rupees; converted figures are a guide.
"Duty applies within India." It does not; domestic orders have no import duty.
Questions
Will I be asked to pay anything when my order arrives?
Possibly. Import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery. We do not collect them.
Is duty refunded if I cancel?
We refund what we charged you. Duty and taxes are paid to the carrier or customs, not to us, so we do not refund them.
Is there duty on orders within India?
No. Domestic Indian orders have no import duty.
How much is the duty to my country?
It depends on the goods and your country. Your customs authority or the carrier can tell you.
