Why rugs for the UK, EU and EEA are made to your exact size, what else you can order, who pays duty and what your cancellation rights are.

The short version

Rugs for the UK, the EU and the EEA (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) are made to the exact width and length you enter. Cushion covers, poufs, baskets and wall hangings can be ordered normally and carry a 14-day right to cancel. Furniture is not yet available for delivery there. Shipping is free. Customs duty and import taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery; RS LIVING collects none at checkout. Switzerland is not included in these rules.

Why rugs are custom size only

UK and EU law gives consumers a 14-day right to cancel most online orders. Goods made to the customer's own specification are an exception. Because every rug is woven after you order it, we make rugs for the UK and EU to the size you specify, using the custom-size calculator on each product page, rather than selling standard sizes.

In practice this suits a made-to-order rug well. You measure your room, enter the width and length you need, and the rug is woven to that. See the rug size guide for how to measure, and how custom size rug pricing works.

Because a custom rug is made to your specification, the 14-day right to cancel does not apply once your order is accepted. Your other statutory rights, including those for faulty goods, are unaffected.

Cushion covers, poufs, baskets and wall hangings

These are standard made-to-order pieces. If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you may cancel within 14 days of receiving them without giving a reason. Use the withdrawal form or email living@raheemandson.com. You pay the return postage.

We refund what we charged you for the items. Import duties and taxes are paid to the carrier or customs on delivery, not to us, and are not refunded by us. Delivery is free, so there is no delivery charge to refund. Full wording is on faults and your rights.

Duty and taxes

Yes, if your country charges any. Customs duty and import taxes are paid by you to the carrier or customs on delivery. RS LIVING collects none at checkout and does not publish rates, because they depend on your country, the goods and their value. Your customs authority or the carrier can tell you what applies. Read what duty at checkout means.

Currency and timing

Prices are charged in Indian rupees. You can view approximate prices in pounds or euros; the rupee amount is what is charged, and your bank may apply its own rate and fees.

Every piece is made to order (estimated production time: hand-knotted about 90 days, Oushak and handloom about 60 days, hand-tufted about 50 days, poufs about 45 days; other pieces usually a few weeks). International timelines are subject to change, and we confirm the delivery time and tracking by email.

Step by step: ordering a custom-size rug

1. Set your delivery country to the UK or your EU or EEA country using the selector in the header or footer. The product page will then show the custom-size calculator for rugs.

2. Measure the room and the furniture the rug relates to. Tape the outline on the floor.

3. Enter the exact width and length you need in the calculator, between 2 and 15 ft per side. The total price for that size is shown before you add it to your bag.

4. Review the order at checkout, including the note that any import duties and taxes are paid by you to the carrier on delivery, before you pay.

5. We confirm the delivery time and tracking details by email. Estimated production time: hand-knotted about 90 days, Oushak and handloom about 60 days, hand-tufted about 50 days, poufs about 45 days; other pieces usually a few weeks; international timelines are subject to change.

Measuring for a custom rug

Measure twice, in the units you are most comfortable with, and convert carefully. Write down the width and length separately and check which is which. A rug that is right in area but turned the wrong way round in your head is a common error.

Allow for floor margins. In most rooms a band of floor showing between the rug and the walls looks better than wall-to-wall. Our rug size guide gives the rules for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms.

Allow for door swings and thresholds. Check that every door that opens over the rug clears it.

If something arrives faulty

Your statutory rights for faulty goods apply in full, whatever the cancellation rules say. For a rug, report a fault within 3 days of delivery and we collect it, repair it and send it back, paying the courier both ways. This is in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them. See faults and your rights.
