Wool
Wool is the main fibre of the store. Our hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs are made in imported high-end wool, flatweave rugs are wool, cushion covers are 100% wool and most poufs are wool.
Wool is springy, holds dye well and has a natural coating that lets a spill sit on the surface for a moment before it soaks in, which is why blotting quickly works. New wool rugs shed loose fibre for the first weeks; see the first thirty days with a new rug.
Wool and silk
Rugs that look shiny are a wool-dominant wool and silk mix. The silk catches light, so the colour shifts as you walk round the rug. Silk marks more easily than wool, so these suit rooms with less traffic.
Jute
Our jute rugs are 100% natural jute and our baskets are natural jute. Jute is a plant fibre with a dry, coarse hand and a warm natural colour. It does not like water: blot spills and dry them quickly, and do not wash a jute rug wet. See jute rugs and jute baskets.
Cowhide
Three poufs, Basil, Evander and Elise, are covered in cowhide (animal hide). Each hide is different in markings. See wool vs cowhide poufs.
Wood and cane
Most furniture is teak, or teak with woven cane. A few pieces are sheesham or plywood. Product names do not always describe the material: the Walnut Block Coffee Table is teak, the Walnut Wave Coffee Table is plywood, and the Teak Slatted Folding Chair is sheesham. The material on each product page is the one that counts.
Wall hangings are sheesham wood with wool, or jute for one piece. See caring for cane and teak furniture.
Still being confirmed
Handloom rugs are wool or a wool and silk blend, as each product page states. One design, Kasimir, has its fibre still being confirmed, so its page leaves the material out until it is.
