Do I Pay Customs Duty on a Rug From India? UK, EU, US, UAE, Australia and Canada

Possibly, and if so you pay it to the carrier on delivery. For delivery outside India, import duties and taxes, where your country charges them, are paid by you to the carrier or customs on delivery. RS LIVING does not collect them at checkout, does not charge them and does not refund them. Orders within India have no import duty; GST is added at checkout.

Who pays, and when

You do, on delivery, if your country charges anything. Import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier on delivery. RS LIVING does not collect duty at checkout, does not charge it and does not refund it, and the price you pay us does not change. Shipping is free on every order.

When the parcel reaches your country, customs may assess duty and taxes, and the carrier usually collects them from you before handing the parcel over. Carriers may also charge a handling or clearance fee of their own; the US and Canadian customs pages below say so.

Why we do not quote a duty rate

Because only your country's customs can set it. The amount depends on how the goods are classified, their value, where they were made and your country's current rules, and those rules change. US Customs and Border Protection, for example, says only CBP can make a final determination of what is owed. A rate we guessed could be wrong on the day your parcel lands.

So we link the official source for each country instead, with the date we read it. This is general information, not customs advice.

Where to check the duty for your country

The table lists, for six destinations, the official page that explains who pays and the official tool for looking up a rate. Each page was read on 22 October 2026. For a rug, ask the carrier or customs which commodity code applies before you look up the rate.

Official sources, read on 22 October 2026. No rates are shown here; check the source on the day you order.

Does it differ for rugs, cushion covers, poufs, baskets and wall hangings?

It can. Each kind of product is classified separately in a customs tariff, so a rug and a cushion cover in the same parcel may be treated differently. Your carrier or customs decides the classification on arrival; the export paperwork we prepare declares what each item is.

Furniture is not available for delivery to the UK and EU. Rugs, in a custom size, and every other category can be ordered for delivery there.

What the carrier may ask you for

A tax or ID number, in some countries. We prepare the export paperwork and declare the goods to customs. Some countries ask for a tax or ID number to clear a parcel; if yours does, we will email you before dispatch.

If the carrier contacts you about duty, the bill comes from them or from customs, not from us. If anything is unclear, write to living@raheemandson.com with your order number.

India: no import duty, GST at checkout

Orders delivered within India have no import duty. Prices are shown before GST; GST at the rate that applies to each piece is added at checkout and shown as a separate line before you pay. Orders delivered outside India carry no GST.

If you cancel or withdraw

If you cancel or withdraw from an order, we refund what we charged you. Customs charges collected by the carrier are between you and the carrier or customs. See faults and your rights.

Where we deliver

We deliver worldwide, with India as our home market, and shipping is free on every order. Some destinations may be restricted by law or by courier rules. If we cannot deliver to your address, checkout tells you before you pay. See shipping and duty.

Questions

Do I pay customs duty on a rug from India?

Possibly. For delivery outside India, import duties and taxes, if any, are paid by you to the carrier or customs on delivery. RS LIVING does not collect them at checkout and does not refund them.

Does RS LIVING charge duty at checkout?

No. We collect no duty or import tax at checkout, for any country. The price you pay us is the price of the items, and shipping is free.

How much is the duty on a rug to the UK, the US or the EU?

Only your country's customs can say, because it depends on the classification, value and origin of the goods and on current rules. Check the official tariff for your country (the UK Trade Tariff, the EU's TARIC or the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule) or ask the carrier.

Is there import duty on orders within India?

No. Orders delivered within India have no import duty. GST is added at checkout and shown as a separate line before you pay.

Is duty refunded if I cancel?

We refund what we charged you. Duty and taxes are paid to the carrier or customs, not to us, so we do not refund them.

Will the carrier ask me for anything?

Some countries ask for a tax or ID number to clear a parcel. If yours does, we will email you before dispatch.
