Hand-woven rugs at Raheem and Son are made on traditional flat looms in Bhadohi, drawing on the dhurrie and kilim traditions of Uttar Pradesh. Weavers interlace warp and weft by hand to create flat-pile or low-pile surfaces in cotton, wool, jute and blended yarns. As a CEPC-registered hand-woven rug supplier in India, we export to the US, UK, Europe, Australia and the Gulf.

Common questions

What is the difference between hand-woven and hand-knotted rugs?

A hand-woven rug is made by interlacing warp and weft threads on a loom; the surface is flat or low-pile. A hand-knotted rug has a pile formed by tying individual knots around warp threads, creating a thicker, more cushioned surface. Hand-woven rugs are typically lighter, easier to clean and faster to produce.

What fibres are used in Raheem and Son hand-woven rugs?

We weave in cotton, wool, jute and blended yarns depending on the design. Cotton produces a crisp, lightweight dhurrie. Wool gives warmth and texture. Jute and natural blends suit earthy, sustainable interiors.

Can hand-woven rugs be made for outdoor or high-traffic areas?

Cotton and flat-woven wool rugs are well-suited to high-traffic areas because the surface has no pile to crush. For outdoor use, we recommend jute-cotton blends or synthetic-fibre options. Speak to us about the end use and we will recommend the right construction.
