Corporate Social Responsibility

Our responsibility

Raheem & Son has woven by hand since 1927. This policy sets out how we make sure that craft remains ethical, sustainable and fair, for the people who weave for us, and for the world the rugs go out into.

Effective date: June 2026

01

Ethical Business Practices

A rug woven in our name carries our conscience. We hold ourselves and our partners to a single standard of integrity.

Compliance & transparency

We comply with all applicable laws in every market we serve, and conduct business with honesty, fairness and full transparency.

Fair labour

Every artisan in our supply chain works in safe conditions, of their own free will, for fair compensation, with rights respected in line with international labour standards.

02

A Child-Labour-Free Craft

Handmade rugs have a difficult history. We refuse to be part of it. No child has any place at our looms.

Zero tolerance

We prohibit child labour absolutely, across our own ateliers and every weaving partner we commission.

Independent certification

We are current members of CARE and FAIR and registered exporters with CEPC. GoodWeave-licensed production is available on request for qualifying orders. Independent inspection so the standard is verified, not merely promised.

Education

We invest in schooling and family support in our weaving communities so that children belong in classrooms, not workshops.

03

Sustainability & the Environment

A handmade rug is the original sustainable object, natural, repairable and made to outlive generations. We protect that inheritance.

Natural materials

We favour hand-spun wool, silk, cotton, jute and bamboo silk, selected for durability and low environmental impact.

Natural dyeing

Our dye garden, madder, indigo, pomegranate, walnut, reduces reliance on synthetic chemistry and the water pollution it carries.

Stewardship

We work to reduce waste, manage water responsibly and improve the energy efficiency of our finishing and logistics.

Built to last

Our rugs are designed to be repaired, re-washed and recycled rather than discarded, see our Rug Recycling Guide.

04

Community Engagement

We have woven in the same communities for nearly a century. Their wellbeing is inseparable from ours.

Investment

We support education, healthcare and livelihood programmes in the regions where our rugs are made.

Partnership

We collaborate with organisations and cooperatives whose values align with our own.

Craft preservation

We sustain endangered weaving and dyeing traditions by keeping master artisans employed and training the next generation.

05

Our People

The hand is everything. We look after the people whose hands make our work possible.

Dignity & inclusion

We value the differences within our workforce and treat every person with dignity and respect.

Health & safety

We maintain safe, clean working environments across our ateliers and partner workshops.

Development

We provide training and skills development so artisans can grow and earn more over time.

06

Reporting & Accountability

Commitments mean little without measurement. We hold ourselves to account.

Transparency

We report on our social and environmental practices and respond openly to questions from clients and partners.

Governance

Responsibility for this policy sits with named leadership within the house. Contact us directly for any questions about our practices.

07

Continuous Improvement

We do not consider this work finished. We expect to do better each year than the last.

Feedback

We welcome feedback from artisans, clients and partners and use it to strengthen our practices.

Review

This policy is reviewed regularly and updated as our standards and obligations evolve.
