Size & Fitting Guide

Choosing the right size is as much about proportion as presence. Think in terms of how the furniture sits and how you move through the room, a well-judged rug unifies the key pieces and defines a zone. A border reads formal; an edge-to-edge pattern feels contemporary. Every Raheem & Son rug comes in standard sizes, or woven bespoke to your exact space.

A Raheem & Son rug, sized to the room

Living Room

A living-room rug should gather the seating together. How much of the furniture sits on it sets the mood of the room.

Living Room, All on the rug

All on the rug

Size the rug to hold all the key seating within its borders, sofa and chairs sitting fully on it. This draws the grouping together and keeps it from feeling adrift.

Living Room, Front legs on

Front legs on

In a compact room, let the rug slip partway beneath the furniture, front legs on. It lends a sense of scale, and suits borderless, contemporary designs that run edge to edge.

Living Room, Float beyond

Float beyond

Let the rug extend a little longer and wider than the furniture it frames. Generous margins give the setting balance and a sense of ease.

Living Room, L-shaped seating

L-shaped seating

With an L-shaped sofa, the rug should sit comfortably beneath both runs, fully, or at least halfway under each. A rug that is too small leaves the sofa disconnected.

Bedroom

In the bedroom the rug frames the bed and gives a soft surface underfoot as you rise.

Bedroom, Under the bed

Under the bed

Set the rug beneath the bed, extending just past the foot and stopping short of the bedside tables, a balanced frame on three sides.

Bedroom, Bedside runners

Bedside runners

A pair of runners, each at least as wide as the bedside tables and running the full length of the bed, keeps the room symmetrical.

Bedroom, At the foot

At the foot

For a smaller rug, lay it crosswise at the foot of the bed, warmth and structure without overwhelming the space.

Dining Room

A dining rug must let chairs glide on and off without catching the edge.

Dining Room, The table

The table

Choose a rug at least five feet wider than the table in both length and width, so chairs stay on the rug even when pulled out.

Dining Room, Round & custom shapes

Round & custom shapes

A round or custom shape echoes a round table. Allow at least five feet of rug beyond the table's edge for comfortable seating all around.

Hallways & Custom Shapes

For the spaces a standard rug cannot solve, every piece can be made to measure.
