A buyer's guide to what common rug and textile certifications actually cover, who issues them, and how to check that a supplier genuinely holds one.

Certifications answer different questions

A certificate is only useful if you know which question it answers. Some cover the product, such as chemical content of the finished textile. Some cover the factory, such as a quality management system. Some cover people, such as child labour and working conditions. A supplier can hold one and not the others, and none of them substitutes for a sample you have inspected.

How to verify a supplier's certificate

Ask for the certificate number, the exact legal entity named on it, the scope (which products or sites), and the expiry date. Then confirm it with the issuing body, not with a photocopy. A certificate in a different company's name, for a different site, or past its expiry does not cover your order. See also our guide to how to verify a rug manufacturer.

What Raheem and Son holds, stated plainly

Raheem and Son is a CEPC-registered export house, and CEPC registration is the only credential it currently holds. A Four-Star Category Certificate was awarded in 2009 by the Directorate of Industries, Government of Uttar Pradesh; it is a historic award that lapsed in 2011, not a current certificate. No in-date third-party product certificate is held as a standing document. Other certifications and audits are arranged on request for qualifying programmes, and we say so in writing before an order, not after.

The full position, including the list of certifications and audits that can be arranged for a qualifying order, is on our standards.

Frequently asked

Does Raheem and Son hold GoodWeave, OEKO-TEX or ISO certificates?

Not as standing documents. CEPC registration is the only credential currently held; the 2009 Four-Star Category Certificate is a historic award that lapsed in 2011. Other certifications and audits are arranged on request for qualifying programmes.

What is CEPC registration?

Registration with the Carpet Export Promotion Council, the body formed in 1982 to promote Indian handmade carpet exports. It identifies a registered exporter; it is not a product test.
